Expensure launches new 'Trends' section: Helping you answer the question of "where does your money go each month?"

Picture 14

There is an age old saying of "if you can't measure it, then you can't control it". This is certainly true when you look at household spending. You may think that you're spending more or less, but it can be hard to quanitify these things when you running a household day-to-day.

Our latest addition to Expensure couldn't have come at a better time. As everyone's attention has recently turned from making crazy money to saving money like crazy we have created a new 'Trends' section that shows you exactly where your money is going each month.

You can now assign each purchase to a category (there are a bunch of defaults or you can make your own). As you add new bills and expenses each week/month Expensure plots a couple of helpful graphs that will show you exactly which areas of your household spending are starting to cost you more and more.

And yes, we are aware that it took not one, but two Fridays to get this live, but we think you'll find it was worth the wait...

Expensure to release five new features during next 5 weeks!

Picture 17

As monthly outgoings for UK households "soar by 26%", and with a recent YouGov poll finding that 44% of people in the UK are reigning in their spending, people are crying out for smarter ways to manage their bills, their expenses and their lifestyles.

So after a busy month spent collating your feedback and brainstorming new features to make Expensure even more useful to people who want to simplify the way they manage and resolve shared money and expenses, we've now come up with Five key new features that we will be releasing to you over the next 5 weeks to help you stay in control.

Now as Albert Einstein so eloquently stated: “Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that can be counted counts”, we've split these new features across several areas that will address multiple elements of the social money lifecycle.

Check back every Friday throughout this period to try out these new features and see for yourself how they can help give you even more conrtol over the social aspects of your finances.

Expensure mentioned on Mashable

Picture_7

Mashable just did a list of great expense, accounting and budgeting apps and we got a nice little screenshot in there.

http://mashable.com/2008/08/14/accounting-and-budgeting-tools/

It was cool to see who else is doing stuff as well. Looks like the expense/money category of apps is really starting to grow, which makes sense since spreadsheets suck, banks don't offer you anything to use at all; and we are shown daily how to mismanage our finances at every step by the million credit companies that are out to benefit from us not keeping track of things.

It is also always nice to login to the Expensure admin and see a giant spike in user sign ups. A great big thanks to Mashable for the mention, and for everyone who has been supporting the app!

The Circular Debt Resolution™ algorithm

Picture_4

One of the core features that makes Expensure super useful for people who flat or travel together is the Circular Debt Resolution™ algorithm.

The Circular Debt Resolution™ algorithm helps people who share expenses remove the pain of working out who owes who what by working it out for you.

At this very moment one of my ledgers involves 5 other people and we are all off to Sicily for a quick trip. Everyone on this Sicily Holiday ledger has paid for different shared expenses like flights, car rental, villa rental and pre-booking deposits, B&B rental and we haven't even left home yet!

Right now we would normally be knee deep in a swamp of confusion over who should repay who what amount of money, but no, we are off down to the the pub instead to enjoy a toast to our own ingenuity.

I must admit it feels pretty cool to be road-testing our products and to find that they not only work, but that they really do save us the time, pain and hassle that caused us to make them in the first place (yay!).

We have started an Expensure group on Facebook

Picture_4

Our Facebook group for  Expensure is now so popular that Mark Zuckerberg has had to jump out of his jacuzzi to install a few more servers to handle the bandwidth.  It could almost be a social network in of itself.

You can join this group too by clicking this magical link: Join the Expensure Facebook group and become the envy of all your friends.

Expensure in public beta!

Picture_9_4

After just under 2 months in private beta, Expensure is now open to the public. We have made a bunch of changes based on user feeback, including a tighter focus on people who are sharing a flat together (you can still of course use Expensure for your travel needs too)

We think the optimum situation is for households of 2 or more people. When the number of flatmates grows, anything to do with sharing bills and shopping expenses gets sticky and complicated beyond belief.

A big thanks to everyone who has been trialing Expensure and we hope you will continue to find the service more and more useful as we continue to refine and improve upon its features.

Day 2 - private beta

Expensure has now been released to the public as a 'private beta'. As it is still in beta there are some features yet to be implemented – and possibly a couple of bugs we don't know about (although we hope not). Feel free to try it out (for free!) and invite your friends and tell us what you think of it.

Don't forget to Register for your 2nd Round invites now.

April 16, 2008

We've just sent out the first round of private beta invites (Yay!)

The first round of Expensure users have just been sent out their invites. It's a pretty good feeling to get one of your apps out there. We've even come up top on Google for people searching under "shared expense management", which obscure as it is, is also pretty cool!

If you want an invite to the test, just go to http://expensure.com, click on the register tab, send us your details and we will add you to the list.
